As the pace of change quickens and the need to be nimble in business grows in importance so does the appetite for Agile in business.
Sometimes referred to as #EnterpriseAgile or #BusinessAgility, Agile is no longer just about software. It’s about knowledge work and business as much as it is about software development and IT projects.
In this latest In Conversations with Craig Smith, one of Australia’s premier Agile trainers and coaches and practitioners, and a director of the Global Agile Alliance, Craig and Mervin discuss the evolution of Agile and why it remains and continues to grow in relevance in the business community.

- Agile not just for software: Agile is not just about software anymore. It is applicable for the entire business, particularly non-transactional knowledge work.
- Business people need to be better at knowing when they’re done: Business people are increasingly adopting Agile practices. The key to doing it properly though is being able to articulate when you’re done. Business streams still need to get better at this. They need to move away from the percentage complete fallacy and make delivered “product” the primary measure of progress.
- Design Thinking is a great kick-starter: #DesignThinking is a really good way at the start of a project to get people on board and to get started quickly
- Experiment to beat disruption: Many of our large corporates haven’t truly been disrupted yet. It will happen though and experimentation will be key.
- Continuous Improvement: The thing that is at the core of Agile surviving and thriving as a concept is Continuous Improvement. It is the 12th principle of the Agile Manifesto and it is why Agile has continued for 20+years.
- Remember the Oath of Non-Allegiance: Pick the right method for the job and don’t be dogmatic to a methodology for the sake of the methodology. Use wisdom to know which practice to adopt at the right time.
- It all comes back to people: All the issues we have are about people and about people working together to collaborate.
