Low code platforms are used by businesses large and small to rapidly create and scale applications. User-friendly interfaces and drag-and-drop functions make it easier than ever for teams to collaborate on projects, delivering a high level of visibility at all stages of development, ensuring processes are refined and mapped out thoroughly before they are executed (minimising error). Low code is different to traditional coding for a variety of reasons, but each is as important as the other and which one is more suited depends on the environment and project at hand. With that said, there are a few things that set low code apart from its older sibling:
Speed
Traditional coding can be complex and expensive. The manual process of writing code is labour-intensive, it requires extremely skilled and knowledgeable developers to turn out a working product, but even then it is likely that bugs will creep in initially, which can slow down project completion. On the other hand, the relative simplicity of low code platforms can help reduce the amount of bugs, significantly speeding up development by up to 20X.
Agility
The complexity of traditional coding languages and methodologies do not always lend themselves to agility. Many legacy systems that have been hand-coded are notorious for being slow, clunky and inflexible. Low code, however, is relatively easy to use, especially for those with a development background, which allows agility to be built into apps and for changes to be made quickly and efficiently.
Skill level
The level of skill required to create an application from scratch with traditional coding methods is both extensive and expensive. Low code, while not quite the development free for all that people have made it out to be, is far simpler to operate and can be understood by people with minimal development experience, thanks to a high level of process visibility.
In conclusion
In today’s business world, with digital transformation a global priority, low code platforms can help deliver lasting change with less complexity and less resources. What are you waiting for?
