The Politics of Uncertainty

    • It’s been almost a year since the UK population made the decision, by the slimmest of margins, to leave the European Union.  A turn of events which led to the British Prime Minister metaphorically falling upon his own sword, perhaps a matter of personal pride and honour, perhaps overwhelmed by the huge task of restructuring and redefining the social, political and legislative landscape of the United Kingdom.  Since that momentous decision there has been much debate and discussion and there remains much uncertainty affecting all of us.

      Almost twelve months later the incumbent PM brings us to the polls again to effectively ask for a mandate to govern and as political parties of all persuasions clamour for our attention and our votes we are faced with yet more uncertainty.  The one thing that is certain in all of this, regardless of who governs, is that change will happen.  There may be changes in the way business is transacted with our European neighbours, changes in policies, and in rules and regulations.  Such change will inevitably mean that core processes within businesses and public bodies will have to change themselves to accommodate new realities.

      So how do we cope with the huge task ahead of us, to ensure that UK businesses and organisations are able to cope with the magnitude and pace of transformation required in uncertain times, yet still remain compliant and competitive in a shifting socio-political landscape?

      One obvious answer in the modern age is that technology has a huge role to play.  But to be able to respond at the necessary pace, a new approach to technology is required, a re-imagining of the old ways of behemoth, legacy, systems underpinned by volumes of code, a new approach to waterfall project delivery which often produces inflexible solutions which are out of date before they make production.

      Fortunately there is an answer, one which has been around and quietly evolving for a number of years.  Modern iBPMS solutions are coming of age as Digital Transformation platforms.  Such platforms integrate seamlessly with legacy systems and are as functionally rich as traditional coding platforms but are underpinned by low-code or even no-code principles, and as such ideally suited to Agile delivery and rapid, targeted response.
