Driving Process Improvements for Client Onboarding in the Accounting Industry

The client engaged Procensol to develop bespoke business process management solutions for key areas of the company. One such crucial area identified for improvement, was client due diligence. A comprehensive project for client onboarding was devised, using the digital transformation software platform Appian. Client due diligence processes needed to be more transparent and efficient. This was most evident in three critical areas: • Money laundering prevention – including adverse media and identity check • Relationship checks – in particular where preventing conflicts of interest • “Judgement” questions – which ranged from commercial viability questions to data gathering questions Existing processes were performed by more than ten teams across three Lotus Notes-based systems. This was creating inconsistencies in client due diligence results. In addition, the existing system was not providing enough transparency to meet due diligence requirements.

Supporting Short and Long-Term Public Sector Strategy

When he announced the formation of the federal Services Australia agency, the Prime Minister specifically called out Service NSW as a poster child for digital-first services.1 Numerous case studies have been published on the NSW agency, which has been considered a success by any measure. At the heart of the success has been a “bi-focal strategy… where organisations could reap the immediate benefits of higher stakeholder engagement, and broader cultural and service transformation over the longer term.” “This is about radically doing something different,” according to Service NSW’s former boss Rachna Gandhi.2 The public sector is being driven to do different things by four forces: the pandemic, the need to do more for less, customer expectations, and the increasing age of employees. Much has been written about Covid’s effect on ways of working and the ever-present need for greater efficiency, so we won’t go over that ground here. And we’ve written elsewhere about the need to meet the rising customer expectations of a public brought up on Netflix and Apple.

Star Pubs and Bars is the pub business of Heineken UK. With around 2,400 pubs across the country, their goal is to ensure the great British pub remains at the heart of communities for generations to come. The key to success is partnering the right pub with the right person. Most of their pubs are leased out to independent operators to run as their own individual businesses, while around 140 of their pubs are manager operated (Heineken’s ‘Just Add Talent’ model). Star Pubs and Bars had invested in the Appian platform and were looking for a partner to help establish core development standards and deliver low-code applications that could help improve internal business processes.

Improved Long-Tail Injury Claim Processing

By their nature, injury claim schemes are often complex. Claims must be assessed, processed, and paid out if approved, and cases can last the lifetime of the beneficiary and involve a myriad of third-party providers and stakeholders. In response to this complexity, one agency determined that they needed a sophisticated case management system with specialised functionality to serve a variety of teams, stakeholders, providers and clients. They turned to Procensol to deliver and support this system, which, with continuous improvement and an agile approach to problem solving, resulted in streamlined processes, reduced costs, better reporting, and increased client satisfaction.

Planning for the aftermath of a global disruption

Disruption fatigue may be real. Many rounds of organisational change, digital transformation, and restructure may have caused many organisations to automatically react to a global disruption like the pandemic with fear and caution. Government agencies are not immune to this reaction. However, if anything can be learned from past economic crises it is this – one must not “waste the crisis” but respond with leadership and purpose.
